Satisfactory completion of one year of study at a recognised university.

Definition of Non-local Applicants

Non-local students are people who have entered Hong Kong for the purpose of education with student visas/permits that have been issued by the Hong Kong Immigration Department. For non-local people permitted to work in Hong Kong by the Immigration Department, their spouses and children (up to 18 years old) who hold dependent-visas are not considered as non-local students. In the case of the non-local applicants who possess only a visitor or a tourist visa, we can  neither register them as a student nor allow them to commence study until a student visa is obtained.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications

Our Bachelor's degree programmes normally last for three years. Applicants holding non-local qualifications are expected to have at least achieved an academic level equivalent to GCE  A-level standard, or completed the first year of a recognized degree programme. Applicants  holding the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma are considered having satisfied our Minimum Entrance Requirements for study programmes up to and including the three-year Bachelor's degree level. Applicants with qualifications equivalent to GCE AS-level standard may be considered for admission to a four-year Bachelor's degree programme with the first year dedicated for foundation studies.

Language Requirement

Any of the following qualifications will be considered as fulfillment of the minimum language requirement for admission:

 1)  A Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 550 for the paper-based test,  PLUS a Test of Written English (TWE) score of 4.5; OR a TOEFL score of 213 or above  for the computer-based test;

 2)  A Band Score of at least 5.5 in each of the sub-tests of the International English  Language Testing System (IELTS) Applicants holding qualifications other than the above will be considered by Departments concerned on their own merit. Applicants may be required to attend interviews or take tests to emonstrate their language proficiency.

Applicants with Physical Disabilities

PolyU has a non-discriminatory policy in admitting handicapped students. You are advised to inform us if you are physically handicapped in any way, so necessary facilities can be arranged  before the start of your study. Candidates fulfilling the basic entrance requirements and  satisfying the specific physical demands of particular programmes will be considered for admission on an equal basis.

Visa

Non-local students must obtain a visa to study in Hong Kong. You should make your application as early as possible at a Chinese embassy. It is necessary for you to nominate a  sponsor who is a resident in Hong Kong, aged over 21, who knows you. If you have difficulties in nominating a sponsor, you may seek assistance from PolyU.
