The University of Hong Kong(HKU), 홍콩 최고 명문, 홍콩대학은
1887년에 설립되어 1911년 종합대학으로 승격하였으며,
홍콩대학의 르네상스식 건물마다 그 역사가 묻어 나온다.
홍콩에는 홍콩대학과 홍콩중문대학, 이 두 개의 명문대학이
있는데 모두 아시아 10위 권 내에 드는 명문 중의 명문이다.
손문도 바로 이 홍콩대학 출신으로 유명하며, 홍콩대학은
공학과 의과 계통에서 세계적인 수준으로서 의과계통에서는
유엔산하 WHO(세계보건기구)가 정한 11개 병원 중 하나가
이곳에 들어서 있기도 하다. 홍콩 최초의 고등교육기관으로
출발한 홍콩대학은 1912년 의대, 이듬해 공대와 예술대를
시작으로 1916년 23명의 졸업생을 처음 배출하였고, 현재에
이르러 학부 및 대학원생 1,900여명의 연구중심의 종합대학으로
성장하였으며, 2004년 타임스지가 선정한 세계대학순위
39위로 건축대, 예술인문대, 경영대, 치대, 교육대, 공대,
법대, 의대, 이과대, 사회과학대 총 10개 단과대학으로
구성되어 있다. 200명의 교수진을 자랑하는 홍콩대 의대는
의학, 간호학, 생물정보학, 한의학 등의 전공으로 나뉘며,
의학기술 연구분야의 선두로서 전염병, 암, 간병 분야의
치료에 뛰어난 연구성과를 보이고 타임스지 선정 생체의학분야
48위에 랭킹되었다. 홍콩대학은 홍콩의 최우수그룹의 50%
이상의 학생들을 유치하여 학부과정 11,700명, 석·박사과정
7,300명 등 총 19,000명의 재학생을 보유하고 있다. 이
중 1,000명 이상이 외국학생으로 이 중 80%가 중국본토
학생들이고 나머지 20%는 35개국 나라에서 온 학생들이다. 특히 홍콩대학은 여명이
주연한 "유리의 성"의 배경이 된 학교로도 유명하다. 현재 서울대학, 연세대학, 고려대학, 이화여대, 부산대학 등 한국의 5개 대학과 교환 프로그램을 진행하고 있다.
Undergraduate Students
For non-local students, the composition fee for the
2008-2009 intake will be HK$100,000 per year (approximately
US$12,820) throughout the period of undergraduate studies.
General expenses in Hong Kong cost around HK$75,000
(approximately US$9,700) for one year, excluding composition
fee.
Taught Postgraduate Students The tuition fee for
non-local students reading fully government-funded programmes
for the academic year 2006- 2007 will be HK$70,000 (approximately
US$9,000). The fees of self-funded programmes are generally
set at higher level and interested applicants may consult
individual departments or faculties at the time of application.
MPhil and PhD Research Postgraduate Students The
tuition fee for non-local students for the academic
year 2005-2006 is HK $ 42,100. For the academic year
2006-2007, the amount is not yet fixed but we do not
expect it to vary much from the current fee level.
A.
Students from high schools:
At least 12 years of pre-university schooling on a full-time
basis; Senior secondary school-leaving certificate
(e.g. Inmungye KodBng (Senior High School Diploma))
fulfilling the minimum high school graduation requirement; A combined score of not less than 1100 in old SAT I
plus at least 550 in SAT II English Writing or a total
score of not less than 1650 in new SAT I with a sub-score
on essay of not less than 8; and A score of not less than 600
in at least 2 SAT II subjects including Mathematics.
B. Students studying at university:
Successful completion of one year's study on a bachelor's
degree programme at a recognised university in South
Korea; and Fulfilment of the English language requirement
by obtaining one of the following: A score of 550 or better in
the paper-based TOEFL (213 for computer-based, 80 for
internet-based); or A minimum overall band of 7
in IELTS; or A combined score of not less than 1100
in old SAT I plus at least 550 in SAT II English Writing
or a total score of not less than 1650 in new SAT I
with a sub-score on essay of not less than 8.
C. International Baccalaureate
(IB) Diploma
An International Baccalaureate Diploma with grade
4 or better in the Higher Level English Language (B
Syllabus); or grade 5 or better in the Standard Level
English Language (B Syllabus); or grade 4 or better
in the Higher or Standard Level English Language (A1
or A2 Syllabus); orgrade 4 or better in the Standard

those applicants with exceptionally outstanding results
would be considered. Potential applicants are therefore
strongly advised to submit their applications before

한다. 외국대학과의 전략적 제휴에 노력한 결과 400개 이상
기관, 18개국의 100여 개 교환대학과 연결하여 매년 학부생의
10% 이상을 교환학생으로 파견하고 있다. 또한 학생들에게
중국 북경대학, 남경대학,
복단대학 등에서 수업을
하고 우수한 중국기업에서 인턴십으로 참여할 수 있는 기회를
제공한다. 현재 중국 복단대학과
MBA 공동프로그램을 운영 중이고,
미국의 MIT, 예일, 프린스턴대학 등과 함께 구성되는 합작
프로그램에 학생들이 참여하고 있다. 종합연구대학 네트워크인
U21의 창립멤버이기도 한 홍콩대학은 연구중심대학을 비전으로
내걸고 다양한 연구활동을 펼치고 있다. 2004년 한해만
해도 6,671가지 연구활동이 이루어졌으며 특히 의학치학(848),
