HKUST offers a wide range of challenging degree programs in Science, Engineering, Business and Management, with opportunities to take courses in Humanities and Social Science, including China studies. Undergraduate programs at HKUST normally require full-time attendance for three academic years. All lead to honors degrees. The University uses a credit-based system under which students follow a structured set of courses and earn credits semester by semester toward the completion of their degree requirements. In order to graduate, students need to accumulate a total of 100-105 credits, as specified for each program, which must include at least 18 credits of course work in general education.In line with our pace-setting approach, the University employs a delivery mix of lectures, seminars, group projects, and continuous assessment.
Dual program destinations (Double majors)
Dual program designations are possible provided:
+ approval by the departments/schools involved is granted
+ both programs lead to the same undergraduate degree (BBA or BEng or BSc), and
+ the requirements of both programs are completed within the normal period of study.

Medium of instruction
Classes are taught in English at HKUST. Certain courses are required to strengthen language usage:
+ First year: compulsory, year-long, one-credit course in English for Academic Purposes
+ Beyond the first year: course work in English communication at the 100 level or above is required.

The University has initiated the "HKUST Global Talent Search", which seeks outstanding non-local students for its undergraduate degree programs in Science, Engineering, and Business and Management. Scholarships are awarded to top students on a competitive basis. Selection is based on academic merit and overall excellence, and performance at the interview.

Selection will be based on academic merit and financial need
For admission to HKUST undergraduate degree programs, all applicants must satisfy both general University and specific program entrance requirements. This may involve an interview administered by the University. Evidence of proficiency in English is also required. Those who have not attained the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination, or equivalent standard, may be considered on a case-by-case basis for admission to the Preparatory Year ("Year-0") Program. The Year-0 Program is a special, one-year bridging program to prepare students for undergraduate studies at the University.
At least one year's successful full-time study or equivalent in a bachelor's degree program at a university or tertiary institution recognized by this University;
Applicants with outstanding achievements at international competitions, such as the International Physics or Mathematics Olympiad, may also apply and their applications will be considered on individual merits.
English Language Requirement
Applicants must also include evidence that they have achieved a standard of English equivalent to a pass in the Hong Kong AS level Use of English examination. Details of current equivalences for internationally available English language assessments are given below:
